Our Hong Kong Pets
Do you know our Aussie’s moving home to Australia cannot get their pets home?
Pet relocation must quarantine in Melbourne and can only arrive by direct flight there.
Currently, the reasons for this are:
- No flights via Cathay Pacific
- No commercial flights with Qantas
- Freight aircraft changed to no longer allow pet transportation
The Numbers to Know
- 18+ months - The time that some of our Aussie families in Hong Kong have been trying to get their pets home
- $10K- $36K - are the quotes that 40% of our Aussie families have been quoted just for the flight for their pet.
- 87% - The number of Aussie families that can no longer afford to bring home their pet.
- 100%— The number of heartbroken kids, mums, dads who restart their lives without the furry family there.

Voluntarily Helped since 2018
LJ Ferrara’s unfailing offers of help, voluntarily, started to be first noticed in 2020. Here is our first feature by ABC News on the person who started it all.
Petition - Exemptions for Aussie Expats to depart Australia
On 11 August 2020, quiet changes overturned the right to allow Australian residents overseas an exemption to return to their homes.
- Over 32,500 people signed our petition.
Aussies mainly affected by this were:
- parents of kids in boarding school or university
- Coming for funerals & compassionate reasons
- coming for weddings & celebrations
- bring babies home to meet grandparents
- kids in boarding schools or university
- Families split by Covid & financial reasons where one parent still works overseas and kids and other parent are in Australia.
Mental Health Awareness
Since the early stages of the pandemic, LJ Ferrara has spoken and advocated for recognition of the extreme high level of anxiety that our Aussies overseas were experiencing both prior to and after their return.

Regardless of wether it was LJ Ferrara being quoted, or if she was connecting Aussie Expat Coming Home members with the press, we have worked tirelessly to keep the stories of Aussies worldwide in the public eye.
